    Getting the Instagram size right

    Instagram only accepts feed photos between 4:5 portrait and 1.91:1 landscape. A tall phone photo (3:4 or 9:16) gets cropped when you post it, often cutting off heads or feet.

    Choosing a preset here places the entire photo in the right frame and fills the space around it with a soft blur of the same photo, so nothing is lost and the post still looks full.

    Tip

    The profile grid now shows posts as 3:4 previews. Keep faces and text in the middle of a 4:5 post so the grid crop does not cut them.

    Questions

    Which size gets the most space in the feed?

    The 4:5 portrait size, 1080 × 1350 px. It fills more of the phone screen than a square or landscape post.

    Can I use a white border instead of blur?

    Yes. Open Settings and change Border to White or Black.

    Is my photo uploaded to a server?

    No. The resizing runs inside your browser with JavaScript, so the image stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share it with "Share by link" in the Download step. Once the page has loaded, resizing keeps working even if you go offline. If your device can't handle an image, the tool can shrink it on our server instead, but only if you agree, and it is deleted right away.
