Your images

Images you open in the resizer are processed entirely in your browser. They are not uploaded to our servers or to any third party, and we cannot see them. When you close or reload the page, they are gone. There are two exceptions: a file you choose to share by link (see Shared files), and an image your device can't handle that you agree to shrink on our server (see Images shrunk on our server).

Shared files

If you press Create share link in the Download step, that one resized file is uploaded to our storage at Cloudflare (Cloudflare R2), our hosting provider, so that anyone with the link can view and download it. Nothing else is uploaded, and you do not need an account.

  • What is stored: the file, its size and pixel dimensions, the page language and the expiry time. The file name is not sent: a shared file is always called image.jpg, image.png, image.webp or document.pdf. Your IP address is not stored with the file.
  • Who can see it: anyone who has the link. The address is random and cannot be guessed, and share pages are hidden from search engines.
  • How long it is kept: you choose 1 hour, 24 hours or 7 days. When that time is up, the link stops working and the file is deleted within a few hours.
  • Deleting it sooner: press Delete now, or open the delete link you were given. The file is removed straight away.
  • Limits: only JPG, PNG, WebP and PDF files up to 10 MB with a valid file structure can be shared. To prevent abuse, each IP address (each /64 network for IPv6) can create 10 links a minute and 30 a day, and there is a daily limit for the whole site. For this, a keyed hash (HMAC) of the address is kept for one minute by the rate limiter and until the end of the day as a counter. The address itself is never stored and cannot be read back from the hash.
  • Abuse: every share page has a Report abuse link. Reports are recorded for us to review, and we remove files that are illegal or break our terms.

Images shrunk on our server

Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share it, or your device can't handle an image and you agree to shrink it on our server (deleted right away).

  • When: only when your device cannot open an image, for example a very large photo on an older phone. The tool asks first, and the image is sent only if you press Shrink on server.
  • What happens: that one image is sent to our service at Cloudflare, scaled down once with Cloudflare Images to about 16 megapixels, and sent straight back to your browser. Your device then resizes the smaller copy as usual.
  • What is kept: nothing. The image is not written to storage, the file name is not sent, and its content is not logged. It is gone from the server as soon as the response is sent.
  • Limits: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and TIFF files up to 50 MB. The same limits per IP address and for the whole site apply as for share links, counted with the same keyed hash (HMAC) of the address.

Cookies and data stored on your device

The site stores only what it needs to work, plus advertising cookies if you allow them:

  • Theme (local storage, "theme"): your light or dark theme choice. Necessary; kept until you clear it.
  • Cookie choice (local storage, "consent"): your answer in the cookie dialog and when you gave it. Necessary; you are asked again after 12 months.
  • Offline copy (service worker cache): copies of pages and site files so the tool works without a connection. Necessary; contains no personal data.
  • Advertising (cookies set by Google): used to show, personalise and measure ads. Only with your consent.

There are no analytics cookies. You can change your choice at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.

Server logs

Like any website, our hosting provider may keep standard request logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) for security and reliability. These logs never contain your images.

Analytics and advertising

Ads keep the site free. They are served by Google (AdSense). Before you choose, and if you reject, Google can still show non-personalised ads, which use no advertising cookies and are not based on your interests. If you accept, Google may use cookies and your IP address to choose, personalise and measure ads, as described in how Google uses information from sites that use its services. In some regions the consent message may come from our advertising partner instead. The site does not use analytics.
