    How to use it

    1. Drop one or more JPG photos.
    2. Each is compressed to under 100 KB, keeping its pixel size where possible.
    3. Download them, or all together as a ZIP.

    Compress or resize?

Compressing keeps the photo at the same width and height and stores it with less detail. Resizing makes the photo smaller in pixels. This page compresses first, which is right when a form checks both pixel size and file size.

If a large photo cannot reach 100 KB without heavy blockiness, the tool reduces the dimensions a little and tells you. For the smallest files with the cleanest look, use the resize to 100 KB page instead.

    Where this size is required

These uploads on our exam, ID and visa pages use this limit. Each link opens the form's page with a preset for every upload.

    Questions

Will compressing change how the photo looks?

A little. Fine textures and gradients lose some detail. At moderate compression it is hard to see; at very strong compression you will notice blocky areas.

Can I compress PNG files here?

Yes, but they are saved as JPG, because PNG files cannot be made smaller by lowering quality.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The resizing runs inside your browser with JavaScript, so the image stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share it with "Share by link" in the Download step. Once the page has loaded, resizing keeps working even if you go offline. If your device can't handle an image, the tool can shrink it on our server instead, but only if you agree, and it is deleted right away.
